Bank of America in official federal data
Rate compared with the national average
Bank of America's 1-year CD APY of 3.15% (as of October 21, 2026) is about 1.8 times the FDIC's national average for 12-month CDs, 1.76% (as of October 19, 2026). On $10,000 kept for a year, that is about $315 in interest against $176 at the national average, before tax; a CD locks its rate for the term, while the national average is for CDs opened that month.

How Bank of America works
Bank of America sells three CDs. Featured CDs come in five set terms, and the 7-month term pays the most. The Flexible CD lasts 12 months and lets you take out the whole balance and interest without a penalty, except in the first 6 days, so it works like a no-penalty CD. Fixed Term CDs run from 28 days to 10 years but paid 0.03% at every term except 90 to 179 days. All three need $1,000. The federal-data block on this page compares the rates with FDIC national averages and shows Bank of America's CFPB complaint count.
Plan for maturity. Featured and Flexible CDs renew into a 3-month Flexible CD at 0.10% APY unless you change them during the 7-day grace period, so a CD you forget about earns almost nothing after its first term. A hypothetical: $10,000 in the Flexible CD at a 3.11% rate earns about $155.50 in 6 months (simple interest), and you could withdraw it then with no penalty. For a longer plan, an online bank and a CD ladder usually pay more.
A hypothetical early withdrawal from the 7-month Featured CD: you put in $10,000 at 3.69% (3.75% APY) and close it after 91 days. The term is between 90 days and 12 months, so the penalty is 90 days of interest: $10,000 x 3.69% x 90 / 365 = $90.99. Interest earned by then is about $92.00, so you would keep about $1. Use the CD calculator to compare terms.
