Capital One Shopping suits online shoppers who want a browser extension that tests coupon codes and compares prices, and who will take rewards as gift cards. The one thing to know: Shopping Rewards can only be spent on e-gift cards, never cashed out, and they usually take 30 to 90 days to post. How Capital One Shopping works
Capital One Shopping is a browser extension and app with three jobs. At checkout it tests coupon codes, some sourced from users and some from merchants; the terms say it does not claim to have every code or guarantee savings. On Amazon product pages the desktop extension looks for lower prices from other sellers, and it can alert you to price drops on items you viewed or bought. And at partner stores, when you click Activate and buy in the same session, you earn Shopping Rewards. Only the third earns anything, and coupon savings alone add nothing to your balance.
Shopping Rewards are a share of the commission the store pays Capital One Shopping. They are earned on the subtotal, so tax, shipping, fees and excluded items do not count. Rewards appear as pending within a few days and usually post 30 to 90 days after the purchase. Before you can redeem, Capital One Shopping may ask you to link a credit card or bank account, which you can disconnect later, and a US phone number. You do not need to be a Capital One customer.
A hypothetical shopper places an order with an $80 subtotal at a store showing 5% back (an example, not a rate Capital One Shopping promises). That earns $80 x 5% = $4.00 in Shopping Rewards, which is below the $5.00 minimum. A second order at the same rate with a $20 subtotal adds $1.00, bringing the balance to $5.00. Once both have posted, which can take up to 90 days, the $5.00 can go toward an e-gift card, issued within 3 business days. If either order is returned, its rewards can be cancelled.
The extension is funded partly by "Ads With Benefits", ad cards shown inside the extension; the help center says there is no switch to turn them off. Who Capital One Shopping fits, and who should skip it
A good fit if
- You shop online and want coupon codes tested automatically at checkout.
- You buy on Amazon and want the extension to look for the same item from other sellers.
- You will spend rewards on gift cards and do not mind waiting 30 to 90 days for them to post.
- You may go months without using it: Shopping Rewards do not expire while the account is open.
Look elsewhere if
- You want cash: Rakuten pays by PayPal or check four times a year.
- You use PayPal and want points you can move to your PayPal balance: Honey converts at 100 points = $1.
- You do not want an extension reading the pages you visit and showing ads: a shopping portal or a receipt app such as Fetch works without one.
Limitations to know
- Returning or exchanging all or part of an order may make the shopping trip ineligible. Cancelled orders, subscription renewals, gift card purchases and orders placed in store, by phone or by chat earn nothing. [8]
- Other rewards or coupon extensions can stop a purchase from tracking, and Capital One Shopping says it cannot adjust rewards afterward. Ad blockers, VPNs, incognito mode and clearing cookies can also cause untracked purchases. [9]
- Capital One Shopping may cancel pending or past rewards for conduct it considers fraudulent or abusive, such as a pattern of returns, buying like a reseller or duplicate accounts, and may close an account at any time for any reason not prohibited by law. [1]
- Redemptions are final and non-refundable, and the terms say Shopping Rewards may never be redeemed for cash. [1]
- Above $2,000 in sign-up and referral bonus rewards in a calendar year you must submit a Form W-9 so a 1099-MISC can be issued; the request is emailed at $1,900. Without it, purchase rewards keep coming but bonus rewards are capped. [15]

Security and privacy
- The privacy policy says the extension and app may collect the pages you view, your actions on them, prices, your purchase history on other websites, the price you paid, coupons used, general and (on mobile) precise location, and device and ad IDs. The help center says it monitors the products you view and buy on shopping sites. [11]
- If you link a card or bank account, Capital One Shopping gets balances, transactions, account descriptions and holder names, and may keep using that data for internal analysis. [2]
- Data is shared with merchants and affiliate networks to confirm purchases, with Capital One affiliates, and with ad providers for behavioral advertising across sites and devices. The policy honors Global Privacy Control. It does not say it sells data, though the help center's "We never sell or share your personal data" (about in-extension ads) reads broader than the policy's own advertising section. [2]
- In re Capital One Financial Corporation, Affiliate Marketing Litigation (E.D. Va., first complaint January 6, 2025): content creators and affiliate marketers, not shoppers, alleged the extension diverted their affiliate commissions. On June 2, 2025 the court dismissed some claims and let the rest proceed. [17]
- On September 22, 2026 the court gave final approval to a class settlement for US affiliate-program participants whose transactions also involved Capital One Shopping. Claimants receive payments equal to qualifying commissions or an alternative payment, and Capital One pays the fees; the order states no finding of wrongdoing. We found no FTC, CFPB or state attorney general action against Capital One Shopping. [18]

Is Capital One Shopping legit?
It is run by Capital One Shopping Holdings, LLC of Plano, Texas, an affiliate of Capital One Financial Corp. (NYSE: COF), and was formerly Wikibuy. A class action by affiliate marketers over diverted commissions ended in a settlement approved on September 22, 2026, with no finding of wrongdoing stated in the order.
How does Capital One Shopping pay out?
Only as e-gift cards. Shopping Rewards cannot be redeemed for cash, PayPal or a bank transfer. Gift cards are issued within 3 business days; see the cash-out table below.
What is the minimum to redeem Capital One Shopping rewards?
$5.00 in Shopping Rewards, or a lower minimum if Capital One Shopping sets one. Individual gift card suppliers may set their own amount limits, and you may be asked to link a card or bank account and a US phone number first.
Do Capital One Shopping rewards expire?
No. The terms say unused Shopping Rewards in a valid account do not expire. You lose them if you delete your account, and Capital One Shopping can cancel rewards it considers fraudulent or abusive.
Capital One Shopping vs Honey?
Both are free coupon extensions that earn only at stores where you activate rewards. Capital One Shopping pays e-gift cards from $5.00, and its rewards do not expire. <a href="/cashback-apps/honey/">Honey</a> earns PayPal Rewards points worth 100 points = $1 that can go to your PayPal balance, but they expire unless you earn at least 10 points every 365 days.
Do I need a Capital One credit card to use Capital One Shopping?
No. The help center says you do not need to be a Capital One bank or card customer, and the service is free. Shopping Rewards are separate from Capital One credit card rewards. You may still be asked to link some credit card or bank account before you redeem.
