PNC Bank in official federal data

Rate compared with the national average

PNC Bank's 1-year CD APY of 4.25% (as of October 21, 2026) is about 2.4 times the FDIC's national average for 12-month CDs, 1.76% (as of October 19, 2026). On $10,000 kept for a year, that is about $425 in interest against $176 at the national average, before tax; a CD locks its rate for the term, while the national average is for CDs opened that month.

Customer complaints filed with the CFPB

From October 2025 through September 2026, consumers sent the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau 2,203 complaints about checking or savings accounts at PNC Bank N.A., about 4.81 per $1 billion of deposits; the company responded on time to 100%. Complaint counts grow with the number of customers and cover the whole company, including checking accounts, and the CFPB does not verify each complaint, so treat them as a rough signal. Read the complaints.

How PNC Bank works

PNC sells fixed-rate CDs in eight promotional terms from 4 to 61 months, all with a $1,000 minimum. The 13-month and 7-month terms paid the most; the 9-month and 19-month terms paid much less, so check the whole list before you pick. Rates come from PNC's Interest Rate Center for your ZIP code. The federal-data block on this page compares them with FDIC national averages and shows PNC's CFPB complaint count.

When a promotional CD matures, it converts to the standard term closest to but not longer than the original, at the standard rate for that term: a 13-month CD becomes a 12-month CD, for example. PNC's rate page doesn't list standard rates, so ask a banker or watch for the maturity notice. A hypothetical: $10,000 in the 13-month CD at 4.25% APY earns about $461.22 over the term (our arithmetic, assuming interest stays in the CD); after that, the rate is whatever the standard 12-month rate is then.

You can't take out part of the balance, and early withdrawals cost a penalty that PNC's CD pages don't quantify. If you might need the money before maturity, ask for the penalty in writing first or consider a no-penalty CD. See our CD calculator and CD ladder guide for planning.

Cons

  • 9- and 19-month terms paid only 2.25% and 2.50%
  • Converts to a standard CD at an unpublished standard rate at maturity
  • Penalty amount not published; no partial withdrawals
  • Rates depend on your location
